Custom Tattooing at it's finest in Eugene
Oregon
Body Art is just that. The body is a canvass that is not only 3 dimensional but is also in constant motion. Rusty Savage is one artist who looks at the body as a dynamic medium to compose the images on, but once completed then the story is told over and again, slightly changing as a body tends to do. Tattoos are an artistic expression that encompasses who you are as well as what you think and we can re-cast our images by combining our physical selves with our dreaming selves.
This piece on Tom was done in about 10 weeks
It
All started when Tom came in with his wife to have her tattoo touched up. He
started talking about doing a fairly large piece on the top of his arm.
He had been thinking of a comic book character by the name of SHI. He had some
comics that had some ideas in it and a cover depicting the face he liked, except
he didn't want it to be exactly like the comic, soooo. He comes back the next
day and I tattooed the head and face you see on the left here. He had mentioned
when we started that he might like to add to it if he liked it, which was one
of the reasons I left the hair short, to the nape of the neck. Well a week later
Tom is back and he wanted to add a torso to her, again mentioning he might like
it to get even bigger later. So we started this project with expansion in mind,
but I didn't realise where we would end up even yet.
So the next week I find Tom sittin in my client chair admiring the girl and wanting to know what could we add. Actually he had called only a couple of days after adding the bust, to bounce some ideas he had for adding more. By the time I had this panther sketched on, we started some serious thought towards composing an entire armpiece that was totally one scene, one tattoo.
Virtually from the start Tom came in almost every week. Each time with new ideas that we talked about and were able to incorporate nearly all of that into the tattoo. About 10 weeks from start to finish and that was skipping only a couple of weeks in between. I will probably work on it one more time now that it's all healed, but he's talking about the same concept - new pictures on the other arm.
