Portraits and Black & Grey Work

I love the dynamics of Black and Greywash tattooing, or monochromatic application of photo realistic imagery in a subdermagraphic medium. (Poetic ain't it?)

I have been lucky enough to have some wonderful breaks along the way. Brian Everett and Jack Rudy have influenced my style a great deal. I've visited Brian and spent some time with him and picked up several invaluable lessons. I saw most of Jack's live seminars on black and grey, stippling and portrait techniques at the National Tattoo conventions in the mid to late 80's. Jack and Brian are the original "Stew Bums" of Tattooing.  I've enjoyed hangin out with them and also working with the both of them on the original Board of Directors at the Alliance of Professional Tattooists.

Creeper, who, worked for Jack for many years, was my convention partner for several years and did several tattoos on me. He's one of the finest letterers in the business, in addition to his awesome B & G work. My lettering, after hanging out with these guys, has taken a good turn as well. Tho the late Mr. Tramp definitely instilled in me the sense of seriousness toward lettering that is generally not observed today. Lettering was a very big part of day to day tattooing when I started in the mid 70's. I know, lot's of folks "don't DO names" these days, but people will get em anyway, you know? So they deserve nice lettering, and my hats off again to those who do it best.
